Choosing the right lorry tension curtain for your fleet
Tension curtains for lorries, trucks and trailers are essential for keeping loads safe and dry during transit.
Plus, with the ability to add branded designs, tension curtains are a favoured technique to improve brand awareness when travelling across the UK.
But when it comes to tension curtains, finding the perfect type can be crucial.
Businesses demand different things from their tension curtains – some favour security and durability, while others favour design or ease-of-use.
Either way, there are many options available to suit a business’ requirements, types of vehicles they use and industries they operate in.
So, as the UK’s leading manufacturer of lorry tension curtains, we thought we’d take a closer look at the tension curtains we provide to help you determine which option best supports your business.
Lorry tension curtains
Made from heavy-duty PVC-coated polyester, standard tension curtains are used on lorries and trucks to protect and keep cargo dry while in transit.
With an adjustable tensioning system, they run tightly along the sides of the vehicle and provide easy access to cargo when loading or unloading.
Here at Structure-flex, our high-gloss lacquered tension curtains are available in two strap styles:
Pocket style
Pocket style curtains have built-in vertical pockets that hold the polyester webbing straps which keeps the curtain taut and helps maintain the shape. This design gives the curtain greater strength and a smoother surface when tensioned.
Here at Structure-flex, our pocket style lorry tension curtains are made with high frequency welded construction techniques and 1,800kg-rated polyester straps.
Plus, with pole pockets and corner cut-out areas which are reinforced with durable 900gsm material the same colour as the curtain, our pocket style tension curtains offer superior robustness and security.
This style is best for operations whose goods are at higher risk of damage or theft and require strong and long-lasting tension curtains to keep them safe.
Fixed strap style
Fixed strap style lorry tension curtains feature directly welded non-adjustable straps that hold the curtain tightly in place when the vehicle is in use.
Our fixed strap style lorry tension curtains feature vertical welded webbing at 600mm centres. Unlike other variations, this webbing continues past the buckle line to the bottom hem for enhanced strength during tensioning.
This style is best for businesses that carry standard load sizes and don’t require frequent changes to their curtain tensioning.
Poultry curtains
Poultry side curtains are specially designed for the transport of poultry and other livestock. These curtains help to regulate airflow inside the vehicle, minimising the risk of temperature discomfort and respiratory problems of livestock during transportation.
At Structure-flex, our poultry curtains feature open weave PVC mesh panels along the entire curtain length and are available in a variety of air flow mesh strengths.
These curtains are best for poultry farmers and operators that want to manage environmental conditions during transit.
Smoothside
Our very own innovation, Smoothside curtains are a buckle-free alternative to traditional lorry tension curtains.
The unique clip-and-rave combination means there are no visible straps or buckles on the side of a Smoothside curtain. So – as the name suggests – its surface is completely smooth!
This design provides a blank canvas for your graphics to stand out clearly on the roads.
Smoothside curtains are best for businesses who want to prioritise brand awareness and require a curtain that displays striking, high-quality graphics.
Step/double deck
Tension curtains for step-deck and double-deck lorries are specifically designed to fit the unique structural requirements of multi-level vehicles.
Since step- and double-deck lorries have two different loading heights, these tension curtains must be adapted to take account of floor height changes and deck wear points.
Here at Structure-flex, our step- and double-deck tension curtains are fitted with additional wear bands at both deck and pillar positions and extra reinforcement is applied to the flap arrangement, providing further durability and stability.
These curtains are best for businesses that operate in specialised industries where the volume, size and height of the cargo doesn’t fit in regular trailers.
Reflex
Reflex tension curtains are another innovative solution from Structure-flex. Specifically developed for multi-drop operations, Reflex is a rapid-access body system which allows for frequent opening and closing.
With its bespoke construction – and the option to individually lock each door – this curtain provides added security for your cargo.
Reflex curtains are favoured by businesses with multi-drop operations, where time, efficiency and load security are crucial.
SlidaFlex
SlidaFlex canopies, combine the strength and security of traditional tension curtains with the addition of a flexible sliding cover system.
This system allows the loading floor area of both trucks and trailers to be effortlessly and quickly opened and closed without the driver needing to leave the ground, improving safety and easy-of-access.
Available from Structure-flex as a complete body kit or a replacement cover, our SlidaFlex canopies can include anti-condensation roof panels and optional cover control, to further prevent cover ingress when opened.
These sliding cover systems are best for businesses that require quick and easy access to cargo, as well as those looking to improve driver safety.
Builder’s merchant/brick curtains
Brick carriers are a type of vehicle used for the safe transportation of building materials – and brick curtains are used to help limit dust and small pieces of debris, from falling from the vehicle and into road traffic.
Our industry leading high-gloss lacquered brick curtains are manufactured from PVC-coated polyester and feature mesh panels as required.
Brick curtains are designed for durability and strength, so our curtains come with reinforced pole pockets, stitched reinforcements in high wear areas and weldable webbing reinforcements at the top, middle and bottom of the curtain.
Brick curtains are used by businesses and builder’s merchants that transport bulky building materials, to help keep their cargo protected.
