New technology key to meeting demand for tension curtains
Investments in the latest tension curtain manufacturing equipment can help manufacturers meet growing demand by boosting capabilities, capacity and efficiency.
That’s according to the UK’s largest supplier of lorry tension curtains, Structure-flex, whose most recent investment in technology allowed the company to cater to greater demand in 2024.
With the new year seen as a ‘critical time’ for business planning, many logistics and distribution firms are looking to refresh their fleets of delivery vehicles with new tension curtains.
“We’ve found that the start of a new year is a popular time for companies to give their delivery trucks a refreshed look. By having the latest technology on hand to help deal with this rise in demand, it’s helped us to produce higher-quality curtains, quickly and more efficiently, every year” says Paul Reeve, Managing Director of Structure-flex.
The Norfolk-based manufacturers operate using nine travelling head high frequency welding machines, including two bespoke Forsstrom TDW 24 kilowatt versions, which operate on a continuous 38-metre track for bonding together large sections of thermoplastic coated fabric.
Structure-flex also use the latest grand format EFI VUTEk Q3R roll-to-roll printers, which incorporate industry-leading ink technology to ensure colours stay clear and vibrant for longer.
This continued investment in advanced equipment has delivered significant benefits for Structure-flex’s operations – including increased production capacity, reduced lead times and a further enhancement in quality.
This combination of up-to-date machinery and decades of expertise has allowed Structure-flex to continue to improve their manufacturing capabilities year-on-year to meet the growing demands of fleet operators and logistics companies.
Established over 50 years ago, Structure-flex is a family-owned business which specialises in manufacturing products from flexible plastics using high-frequency welding.
As well as being the UK’s leading supplier of lorry tension curtains, Structure-flex also manufacture a wide range of products from flexible thermoplastic, including crane test bags, bulk packaging bags and the fast flood defence system, Mobildeich.
“After a very busy year for customer demand, particularly in lorry tension curtains, we know firsthand the difference technology makes. We’re continually looking for ways to improve our capabilities even further to ensure our customers get the best from our products in 2025 and beyond” concludes Paul.
