Structure-flex & Olympic Pools at the Natural History Museum
The UK’s largest supplier of lorry tension curtains and other flexible thermoplastic products have provided open top tanks to Olympic Pools Norfolk, to aid The Natural History Museum in their garden refurbishments.
Also known as onion tanks, Structure-flex’s open top tanks are developed to be quickly and easily deployed, and filled with water on level ground. They have been used for humanitarian, fire-fighting, agriculture and construction projects.
For this work, they were used by the Natural History Museum which is home to over 80 million objects from across natural history.
“It was great to provide Olympic Pools with a versatile product which has been used to help with refurbishments at one of the country’s most famous museums. Our open top tank is extremely strong and capable of storing water capacities of up to 100,000 litres” says Paul Reeve, Managing Director of Structure-flex.
The open top tanks have been used in a project to pump water, including important bacteria and invertebrates, into temporary storage for six months while the ponds were refurbished.
With 60 years of experience in pool design and construction, Olympic Pools are industry leaders in providing bespoke pools. But are equally at home helping the Natural History Museum maintain their biodiverse ponds.
As a company who drains and stores large quantities of water for pool installations or refurbishments, they needed a product which can be easily setup, is strong and easy to clean and store between jobs.
Structure-flex’s open top tanks are produced in a variety of PVC and TPU coated textiles and feature a durable PVC groundsheet to protect the base.
“These open top tanks were fantastic for what we needed them for. They were setup quickly and held large quantities of water whilst the pools were renovated. After the job the water was pumped back into the pools and the tanks were easily cleaned and are now working on another project” says Lee Cutting, Managing Director at Olympic Pools Norfolk.
Established in 1970, Structure-flex is the UK’s leading suppliers of lorry tension curtains.
They also provide a wide range of other products produced from flexible thermoplastic. These products include bulk packaging, proof test bags, air lift bags, and the Mobildeich flood-defence system.
In addition to its physical products, Structure-flex also offers a wide range of digital printing services, including vehicle graphics and wraps, signage, and advertising.
“We are incredibly proud to offer such a varied range of products and services to our clients. Seeing our products used in great projects, like this one which protects natural life, including bacteria and insects which have happily made the ponds their home, is fantastic to see.” concludes Paul Reeve.
