The UK’s largest provider of lorry tension curtains, Structure-flex, are encouraging fleet operators to invest in insulated lorry tension curtains to keep perishable goods cool over the summer period.
The UK saw extreme temperatures at the beginning of summer, with the Met Office recording a high of 37.3°C in Suffolk on 26th June 2026.
This heat is only set to continue, with summers predicted to get progressively hotter year-on-year due to the effects of climate change.
For businesses transporting temperature-sensitive goods such as fresh produce, dairy products and pharmaceuticals, maintaining consistent temperatures during transit has become increasingly difficult over the summer period.
Norfolk-based Structure-flex say insulated lorry tension curtains are the ideal solution for keeping goods cool in the summer heat.
“The hot summer weather has arrived in full force – and it’s already causing difficulties for transport operators carrying temperature-sensitive goods. Even short periods of excessive heat can affect the quality of products, so investing in the right equipment can make all the difference” says Paul Reeve, Managing Director at Structure-flex.
As the UK’s leading supplier of lorry tension curtains made from PVC-coated thermoplastic and high-frequency welding, Structure-flex also provide specialist insulated options designed to help reduce heat transfer into trailers.
Their insulated curtains incorporate a separate composite layer of insulated air-filled, aluminium membrane which covers the entire length of the curtain.
This creates an additional 10% insulation on each side of the curtain and provides an added layer of protection for perishable goods while on the road.
“Insulated curtains aren’t designed to replace refrigerated trailers, but they can play an important role in reducing heat gain and supporting temperature control during transit. With strong seams and expert manufacturing, our insulated curtains are the ideal solution” says Paul.
Established in 1970, Structure-flex manufacture a wide range of PVC-coated thermoplastic products using high-frequency welding technology, including proof test bags, water storage tanks and flood defence system, Mobildeich.
As well as providing excellent insulation, Structure-flex’s PVC-coated thermoplastic curtains are UV-resistant, helping to protect curtains from prolonged sun exposure while maintaining their strength, appearance and performance throughout the summer months.
“Extreme summer temperatures are becoming less of an exception and more of an expectation. With insulated and durable UV-resistant lorry tension curtains, we’re helping transport operators keep perishable goods protected and fleets performing reliably throughout the warmer months” concludes Paul.
